An Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing administrator has been named the inaugural inductee of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) Hall of Fame.

Beth Ann Swan, PhD, RN, CHSE, FAAN, ANEF, associate dean for education and the Charles F. and Peggy Evans Endowed Distinguished Professor for Simulation and Innovation, received the honor May 21 during the association’s annual conference in San Diego, Calif.

This prestigious new honor recognizes a visionary leader whose extraordinary contributions have shaped the future of ambulatory care nursing. A former AAACN president, Swan has played a pivotal role in shaping the field through her leadership and scholarship. She co-edited both editions of the Care Coordination and Transition Management Core Curriculum, served on the Journal of Ambulatory Care Nursing Editorial Board, and was honored with the AAACN Above and Beyond Award in 2017.

At Emory, Swan advances simulation-based education, evidence-based care coordination, public health, and interprofessional education. Her latest research focuses on the simulation and virtual reality space, building a collaborative education model to support competencies in interprofessionalism, public health, and social determinants of health. She also leads a Health Resources and Services Administration-funded project to expand the community health workforce through training opportunities.
